Types of Wet Mops

Before purchasing a mop, it’s important to know the difference between the different varieties that are currently on the market. They all are meant to handle general clean-ups, but each of them also has its own specific function.

Cut-End Mops

These mops are the type that most people picture when they hear the word “mop”. They have long strands and the ends are cut, as you can figure out from the name. This is the type you’ll see in most homes.

Flat Microfiber Mops

This type of mop is very useful for quick clean-ups and effectively taking care of spills and pet accidents. They come with a microfiber cloth that looks similar to a washcloth that is applied to the head. The biggest benefit is that you can take the pads off and wash them in your washing machine so that they can be reused.

As suggested by the name, a spin mop is a mop with a head that can spin completely around. They are similar to cut end mops, but the fibers are much shorter and they’re attached to a round cleaning head.

These mops that have a 360° rotating head are a breeze to use and they’re extremely simple to wring out. In fact, you hardly have to do anything at all to remove the excess water. The bucket does the hard work for you! We’ll look at that aspect a bit more in-depth a little bit later. Just know that you won’t want to miss out on it!

Many companies make and sell spin mops. They’re very affordable and can be found in a variety of places, both online and in brick and mortar stores. One of the great things about spin mops is they can be used wet or dry. Having multiple functions for one price is definitely a great deal.

Dry Mopping

The fibers on your spin mop are probably made from microfiber, which is an extremely absorbent material that is used in a variety of applications. Using your spin mop on spills is great because it soaks up the mess quickly and easily. Just rinse it well after use and it will be ready for the next cleaning project.

Wet Mopping

It’s time for the really good part: Using your spin mop and bucket.

I’m sure you’ve been wondering what makes the spin mop so much easier to wring out. There is a basket in the mop bucket that you put your mop head in to remove excess water. With just the push of a pedal, the basket rotates, spinning your mop head like a salad in a spinner. The faster and longer it spins, the drier the mop head ends up.

Spin mops are a great tool to use on hardwood floors and a variety of other flooring types because you can control how much liquid you’re using. This is a great feature because it helps reduce the risk of you damaging your floor due to excess water sitting on the surface.

There are several spin mops available on the market and they all can be used with these steps:

  1. Fill your bucket with hot water and your desired cleaner.
  2. Wet the head of the mop thoroughly and put it in the spinner.
  3. Press the pedal until you have your mop head as wet or dry as you’d like it.
  4. Mop your floors, rinsing and spinning as needed.

It’s an extremely easy process that anyone can do.
